On July 9, Father Mike Tegeder, a pastor at two Twin Cities parishes and a personal friend, passed away. Mike was a true progressive and a fearless advocate for the oppressed. Mike gained public recognition for his outspoken criticism of the role of the Catholic Church hierarchy in mismanaging—and to some extent facilitating—the clergy sexual abuse crisis. In fact, many of his parishioners were surprised that Mike was able to keep his position within the Church. This obituary from the Strib does a wonderful job of summarizing the life of a remarkable and passionate man who was a really nice guy to boot.
